Pair-Go for Young Players

Since 25th EYGC 2020, PairGo tournament became a traditional event at EYGC. The tournament is sponsored by Japan Pair Go Association and Pandanet The following rules apply:

  • each pair consists of a female and a male player from any age group,
  • pairs can be from the same country, but “international” pairs are allowed as well,
  • Pair Registration Form (NEW)
  • standard pair-go rules will be applied: https://www.eurogofed.org/pairgo/pairrules.htm,
  • the time limit: 10 minutes + 1×10 seconds byoyomi,
  • The elimination rounds will be played on Thursday, 26th March,
  • semi-finals and finals will be played on Friday, 27th March.

Teachers

All young players will have the opportunity to analyze their games with the top-level go teachers. There will be three review corners: one for dan-level matches, another one for single-digit-kyu players and finally one for double-digit-kyu players.

Lukaš Podpera, 7d, from Czechia, is one of the strongest players in Europe with a lot of experience in giving lessons during camps for young players. Lukaš was the European representative in the 1st GLOBIS Cup in 2014. Since then, he won many top European tournaments and Czech championships. As the representative of the very strong generation, with the team leading Pandanet League A, Lukaš contributed a lot in building a new generation of young players from Czechia. Lukaš is going to review the top games of all age groups immediately after games are finished.

Ioan Elian Grigoriu, 6d, from Romania, is currently running a go school in Vienna. Elian spent several months in Ge Academy in Quzhou, improving his skills and learning how to teach. He organized many go camps for young players in Vienna. Elian is a regular teacher in summer go camps in Zaostrog. Aside from game reviews, Elian is emphasizing the value of regular tsumego solving. In addition, he is skilled in attractive Twitch commentary of top games. Elian is going to analyze games of single-digit-kyu players giving them excellent advice how to improve.

Mirta2

Mirta Medak, 3d, from Croatia, started to play go in 2013, helping Croatian Go Alliance to build one of strongest and the most vibrant youth go community in Europe. Mirta is the captain of Croatian go team, both in the senior League B and in the junior League A. She is the main organizer of Vienna Open, along with other prominent tournaments held in Vienna, including Pro Qualification and Pro Championships in 2025. Mirta is going to help young double-digit-kyus to understand the right direction of play.
